Parenting & Circle of Security™
Sometimes the hardest part of parenting is facing everything it brings up in you.
This work isn't about trying to fix you or your children. It's about understanding what's happening beneath the behaviour, and learning how to respond in ways that will help all of you.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or just a little unsure of what your child needs from you, we can start there.
A Little About Me
I'm a Registered Nurse with more than 30 years of nursing experience, including working in child and family health, public health and the early years. I've been a registered Circle of Security Parenting and Classroom™ facilitator since 2017.
I'm also a mother of three boys, including twins who arrived eleven weeks early. So alongside the professional knowledge, I know something about the exhaustion, uncertainty and sheer humanness of raising children.
Both matter deeply in the way I work.
What I Offer
1:1 Parent Support
For parents and caregivers who want somewhere to think through what is happening with their child, and what may be happening in themselves alongside it.
We can work with a particular behaviour or relationship difficulty, a pattern that keeps repeating, or simply make space to understand things differently.
I draw on attachment, Circle of Security™, nervous system regulation and decades of experience working with children and families, but the starting point is always you and your family.
Sessions are 60–90 minutes and available in person in Nelson or online.
$185 NZD per session, including GST.
If cost is a barrier, we can talk.
Circle of Security Parenting™
Circle of Security Parenting™ is a relationship-based programme that helps parents and caregivers understand what children may be communicating through their behaviour.
Rather than giving you another set of parenting techniques, it offers a way of seeing what is happening in the relationship: when your child needs support to explore, when they need you to welcome them back, and what can make those moments difficult for us as parents.
One of the things I value most about Circle of Security is that it doesn't ask parents to be perfect. It asks us to become more curious about what our child needs, what gets stirred up in us, and what happens between us when things go wrong.
Through the programme we explore:
Understanding behaviour as communication rather than simply something to manage
Recognising when your child needs support to explore and when they need comfort or connection
Noticing where your own experiences can influence how you respond
Becoming more confident repairing the relationship when things are challenging
The programme can be completed individually or as part of a small group.
